black brew identity

The X symbol for Black Brew formulates playfully different messages. What at first glance seems to be a random arrangement of coffee cups turns upon closer inspection into a dotted X. (Detail from “The art of Japanese syphon coffee brewing” wall print 625 cm x 65 cm).

The interior features the X symbol build up by nineteen 45 RPM record labels which have the word “black” in the title of the song or in the name of the artist / band. From jazz to hardcorepunk; from reggae to singer-songwriter and pretty much of everything in between. (digital print on canvas 150 cm x 200 cm).

The right window of the intimate spot features the X symbol coffee bean arrangement in a recalling 70’s psychedelic pop-art style.

The facade of Black Brew reveals much of its character: providing only excellent coffee in a relaxed environment.

The coffeehouse offers also live gigs. The very first edition of the Black Brew Unplugged sessions presented alt-pop band LIO from Sheffield UK, performing an acoustic session.

Laid-back vibes at the Black Brew music lounge hangout. The music sounds richer when paced with some hot coffee and even better when relaxing into the listening modus. (photo: Marlous van den Hoogen).

The simple yet mesmerizing scientific process that goes in Japanese siphon coffee brewing not only delivers a perfectly brewed coffee, the equipment also looks very cool.

Choosing the perfect bean. Remember no matter how impressive the process is, what you will ultimately be tasting is the bean. (Detail from “The art of Japanese syphon coffee brewing” wall print 625 cm x 65 cm).

The heat will produce steam and the pressure inside the bottom chamber will rise, this will force the water from the bottom chamber to the top chamber and the coffee will be brewed. (Detail from “The art of Japanese syphon coffee brewing” wall print 625 cm x 65 cm).

If you feel a need to get wired: great music coupled with strong, black coffee is the best way to go...

So next time you need a boost, you know what will reach for you: a hot cup of coffee and some great music.
